Biography
Maryam Sohail is currently practicing art in Houston, Texas. She was born in Pakistan and lived there for several years before moving to the United States. Here, in the US, she earned her citizenship and a BFA from the University of Houston. She is currently a high school art teacher.
Coming from a family of architects and artists, and with two years of architectural study of her own, she has hand drawn 3D interiors and created a variety of custom artwork for clients. She has worked with color pencil, acrylics and water color, coordinating styles and colors to complement the client’s style. She has also created wall murals and detailed, hand cut works of art.
She plays in a imaginative way with collages, color pencils, cut paper, charcoal and canvas. The inspiration for her art comes from surreal artists and issues impacting her daily life. Her work blasts your senses with color and contrast, elevating the mundane and the ugly to a near deific status - harsh, broken, beautiful - the mess of life filtered through the eyes of a hopeless optimist. She is always learning, ever growing, endlessly seeking the final masterpiece that will inevitably be surpassed by the next project as her technique and artistic sensibility improves.
