Biography

Maryam Sohail is a visual artist and art educator based in Houston, Texas. Born in Pakistan and shaped by the experience of migration and cultural hybridity, her work explores the emotional residue of everyday life through color, contrast, and surreal imagery. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Houston and is a certified art teacher, currently teaching at middle and high school level.

Working across media such as colored pencil, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, collage, and cut paper, Maryam creates both personal and commissioned work, including custom artwork and wall murals for private clients.

Her personal work lives in the space between the surreal and the tender. Drawing inspiration from surrealist traditions and the quiet absurdities of daily life, she transforms the mundane into something luminous and strange. Harsh, broken, and beautiful, her work reflects a hopeful tension between fragility and resilience, chaos and care.

Maryam’s practice is driven by curiosity and continual growth. Whether teaching or creating, she approaches art as a living process that evolves with each new question, each new experiment, and each new attempt to say something true.
